A year and a half ago I left a bad marriage which left me in a disgusting amount of debt. I was a little short on bills as I just started working again from sick leave and have two kids to provide for. I was going to pawn my wedding and engagement rings because they were well worth $9000. Unfortunately my ex took the appraisal and all that. I was informed that I could either pay for another appraisal and get a pawn loan based on the actual worth or take a loan based on weight of the ring(s) Although I was a little bummed I was treated with courtesy and respect. The employee (I think owner) took the time and educated me as to why there is that policy. Which helped me understand the procedure. Although I didnt walk out with as much of a loan as I wanted at the time .... I got as much as I needed to get by and plus I left satisfied with the way I was treated...which is far and few between these days. :)
