I want to inform you of a company named Northern Payment Systems which has been sending letters to small business owners in this state (mostly immigrants with language barriers) to solicit them unethically. They are a credit card processing company, however they send owners letters convincing owners their EBT processing terminal is expiring and needs to be updated with a deadline of 24-72 hours. Fearing loss of EBT customer business, many business owners (including myself) filled out paperwork which is a contract to get locked in for 4 years. Most of these owners are not looking for a new credit card processing company, however unfortunately get locked in. The contract consists of a 4 year agreement with First Data for equipment at 80 dollars a month and 1 year contract with Northern Payment systems. The early termination fee is an astounding $3800 for First Data and $1500 with Northern Payment Systems. As you can imagine, this is a significant amount of money for small business owners. I have not used their services and requested my contracts to be terminated as this was a misunderstanding, however the employees are extremely difficult to work with and unsympathetic. I am requesting your team investigate the unethical practices of both Northern Payment Systems and First Data. They have many complaints against them on BBB and google. Since they are keen on targeting immigrants, I am sure many cases of their fraudulent practices have not surfaced. We work over 70 hours a week to run our business, pay fair wages and taxes. Companies such as Northern Payment Systems should not target small business owners through immoral practices for their unnecessary greed.
